Hello Jasmine, giving up the starches like rice and beans can be hard but I have found it to be the key to my success. I substitute steamed vegetables. Sure they may have a few carbs, but I have found eating only meat leads to falling off the wagon. Instead, I just limit grains, rice, and beans and the vegetables don't seem to make a difference.

Unfortunetaly I don't like asparagus and I'm used to eating a meat with mashed potatoes and corn.. Please help! I need a good healthy side dish.. Is it ok to eat a meat with brocolli?

I am fairly new to this low carb lifestyle, however, my husband is very creative.(and supportive). We use cauliflower and turnips as substitutes for potatoes. I made clam chowder with them and he couldn't tell the difference!

I will not try to write a book but I am a Type 2 Diabetic who no longer is on "ANY" medication. I had to remove them due to they were destroying my liver. Anyway I met with a gastroenterologist who told me that I should be on a high protein no carb diet. While I found that totally impossible due to the massive headaches I was getting, I was able to adjust it to around 30-45 carbs all day, which got rid of the headaches. The carbs that i do eat come from fruit high glycemic foods(snack protein bar or half of a piece of fruit). Try to stay away from cheeses and high fatty foods the fat can also mess with your blood sugar and cause other health issues( high tri-glycerides). Well I have lost 30 lbs from doing this as well removing the diabetes meds and my blood sugars are normalizing finally!!! Oh yeah one other thing is that I do work out 1 hr a day whether it is a treadmill or wii fitness you have to do it atleast 6x/wk. the weight will drop like rocks and you will start to feel great. I did have an issue with finding variety in my diet but just keep searching for quick recipes. i found that cooking all my chicken breasts on sunday and them packaging them for the week really made life easy. I hope this may have inspired some to try this......

Hi Marie,
With cold cuts you need to be careful about fillers from grain products and sweeteners. The best bet is to check out the nutritional placard on the package to determine how carb intense the particular cold cut is.

Hi Alexis,
Of course if you are going to limit carbs you will want to cut out sugars and starches as much as possible. This means sweets and bread or pastries are a no no. This isn't bad anyway because they usually give a tired feeling after a few hours because of the spike and then crash in blood sugar. I eat a lot of crunchy vegetables. They may have a few carbs but it is very little. Also, meat products as long as there have not been fillers added.
